        Companies protest unjustified sanctions
        (China Daily)
        Updated: 2004-10-02 08:57

Two Chinese companies protested on Thursday 'totally groundless' sanctions by the United States.

The US Government imposed sanctions on September 21 against China Xinshidai Company and China New Era Group, alleging that they spread WMD-capable missile technology.

"We hereby express our strong opposition and condemnation of such outrageous and unjustified behaviour," the companies' statement said.

The China Xinshidai Company is a State-owned enterprise legally registered and run in China. For over 10 years, the company has operated various businesses including trade of conventional and general products of China's defence industries in strict accordance to laws and regulations of China and developed businesses in many countries and regions of the world, the statement went on.

"We strongly demand that the US Government provide evidence for the sanctions, respect the facts and lift the sanction immediately," it said.

The sanctions "bring us not only great economic loss, but also damage to international reputation as well as having an enormous adverse impact on our normal trade relationship with our US co-operators," it concluded.
