        HK outward processing exports up 22%

        About HK$101.4 billion (US$13 billion) of Hong Kong's total exports to China's mainland in this year's second quarter were for outward processing, up 22 percent over a year earlier, the Hong Kong government's Census and Statistics Department said Hong Kong Tuesday.

        The value of domestic exports to the mainland for outward processing dipped 2 percent to HK$6.5 billion (US$833.3 million) while the value of re-exports rose 25 percent to HK$95 billion (US$12.18 billion), it said.

        The value of imports from the mainland related to outward processing grew 22 percent to HK$161 billion (US$20.6 billion), while HK$165.3 billion (US$21.2 billion) of the city's re-exports of mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the mainland, up 13 percent, according to the department.

        In the first half of the year, HK$172.8 billion (US$22.2 billion) of Hong Kong's total exports to the mainland were for outward processing, up 16 percent over the same period of last year.

        The value of domestic exports to the mainland for outward processing fell 5 percent to HK$11.1 billion (US$1.4 billion) whereas re-exports rose 18 percent to HK$161.7 billion (US$20.7 billion).

        The value of imports from the mainland related to outward processing rose 18 percent to HK$291.6 billion (US$37. 4 billion), while HK$314.6 billion (US$40.3 billion) of the city's re-exports of mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the mainland, up 14 percent.
