Elton John to make Chinese debut in Shanghai
British pop star Elton John said he was delighted to perform in China for the first time, saying it was always his ambition to play music here.
Dressed in a bright red robe with a black jacket, the British star looked visibly tired, having just arrived in Shanghai earlier in the day.
He said he visited Shanghai in 1988 and 1984, but had never performed in China.
"It's always been my ambition to come to China to play music," said John whose musical career started in the 1960s.
He will perform in two concerts on Sunday and next Tuesday at the 12,000 seat Shanghai Stage, the city's prestigious venue.
He was presented with a yellow imperial robe, similar looking to ones that used to be worn by Chinese emperors, at the press conference.
