China 'pushing' for removal of Taiwan Olympics advertising Taiwan says China has pushed for the removal of advertising posters supporting Taipei's Olympic team from 500 baggage carts at Athens airport. China, which views Taiwan as part of its territory, frowns upon the island's participation at international events, which China deems should only involve sovereign states. Taiwan competes in the Olympics under the title of Chinese Taipei. The head of Taiwan's Government Information Office, Lin Chia-lung, says games organisers have asked Taiwan to withdraw the posters. Mr Lin says the office is seeking more information from the Athens Olympic organising committee. The Athens Olympic Games begin on August 13. |
