A man was injured when a mobile phone he was using exploded in Beijing, state media said.
The ultimate guide to digital camcorders, HDTV cameras, and super-portable video cell phones.
The man identified as Mr Chen was said to be talking on an NEC phone, which he borrowed from a colleague, when it blew up, the Beijing News said.
"I heard a bang and saw Mr Chen's mobile phone drop, leaving his hand, neck and collar blackened," a woman identified as Miss Peng said.
The phone's owner Huang added: "The explosion sounded very much like the crushing of a thermos bottle, and could be heard floors below the office."
Chen was later treated for neck and hand injuries in hospital.
Huang said he bought the N530i DB7000 phone by Japanese firm NEC at a Beijing shopping centre, which has agreed to compensate Chen if it is proved the battery was faulty.
However, an official in the NEC China office said the company was not responsible. "N530i is not made and sold in the Chinese mainland," he said, adding he had never heard of an NEC phone exploding before.
