Girl, 14, becomes a mother
A 14-year-old girl has given birth to a baby after being raped. During the entire period of her pregnancy not one of her family members noticed her condition, the Shanghai Morning Post has reported. On March 7, Yin Yin (not her reak name) suddenly suffered apparent stomach pains at her home in Shanghai's Songjiang District. Her mother, Zhou, thought it was some kind of acute disease and sent her to the local hospital. After diagnosis, the doctor said the girl had been pregnant for over eight months and would soon give birth. "If she had told me earlier, everything would be different," said the mother who couldn't believe the news at first. Zhou said a drunken man had raped Yin Yin last summer. Due to fear and lack of knowledge, the girl didn't tell her mother about the attack. She returned to school as usual and attended all her sports classes. Because the girl was a little bit fat before, her pregnancy was not noticed. The girl now insists that the rapist was Li, her step father. Li has sought a biological paternity test. The girl's grandmother said Li married Zhou four years ago. After the marriage, Li treated Yin Yin as kindly as if she were his own daughter. The girl also seemed satisfied with her new father. Yin Yin's mother told the grandmother that Li was not necessarily the perpetrator. After Yin Yin's story was publicized, Zhou said the family would come under a lot of pressure. The police have launched an investigation into the incident. |
