Chinese legislators Sunday approved Premier Wen Jiabao's government work report after their demand the government improve its style of work had been incorporated into the final version of the report.

The Report of the Work of the Government was adopted at Sunday's closing meeting of the Second Session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC), which began on March 5.

The State Council, or the cabinet, headed by Premier Wen, has made 19 amendments to the report after repeated deliberations of the views and proposals of lawmakers and government advisors, according to the resolution.

On the self-improvement of the government, a full sentence is added: the government must improve its style of work, cut the number of meetings and documents, and spend more time and energy in field investigations and researches at the grass-root level.

The other major amendments include wordings on land expropriation and compensation, the former revolutionary areas, development and protection of maritime resources, and the spread of scientific knowledge.

Some 2,896 deputies out of 2,984 attended the closing ceremony presided over by NPC standing committee chairman Wu Bangguo. The government work report was delivered on March 5 by Premier Wen Jiabao. The deputies voted to pass the development report, bugetary report, NPC work report and reports by the supreme court and supreme procuratorate.

The voting for the amendments to the Constitution is under way.

Premier Wen Jiabao will meet the press after the meeting.
