        Wang Qishan, newly-elected Beijing mayor   [China Daily]
        Wang Qishan was elected Beijing mayor Saturday at the second session of the 12th Beijing Municipal People's Congress.

        He will hold his first press conference for journalists from both home and abroad at twelve on Februray 21st.

        Mr. Wang was Vice Mayor and Acting Mayor of Beijing before the election.

        Wang Qishan, Han nationality and a native of Tianzhen, Shanxi Province, was born in July 1948. He owns a bachelor's degree in history from Northwest University.

        Mr. Wang previously worked as Deputy President and President of Construction Bank of China, Deputy Governor of People's Bank of China, China's Central Bank, and Deputy Governor of Guangdong Province.
