Premier on relations between army, government, people
        ( 2004-01-10 14:49) (Xinhua)

Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday called for further efforts to consolidate the relationship between the army, the government and the people, saying it is "an important magic weapon for us to get over difficulties and win victories."

Wen, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made this remark at a two-day national work conference on the issue, which closed here Friday.

China has long cherished the tradition of "the government supporting the army and taking care of servicemen's families" and "the army supporting the government and loving the people." The premier called this tradition a "great creation" by the Chinese armed forces and the people.

Wen stressed that this tradition should be further carried on under the guidance of the important thought of the "Three Represents," which maintains that the CPC always represents China's most advanced productivity and culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

At the meeting, 309 cities, 206 civilian and army units, and 99 individuals were rewarded for their meritorious deeds in the traditional campaign to promote relations between the army, the government and the people.
