Quake shakes Indonesia's Bali ( 2004-01-02 14:30) (Agencies)
An earthquake shook parts of eastern Indonesia on Friday, witnesses and officials said. At least seven people were injured on the tourist island of Bali, state news agency Antara reported. Officials from the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency were not immediately available to confirm the strength of the quake, which was felt on Bali and the neighboring island of Lombok. Officials on Lombok said they had no reports of injury or damage. On Bali, at least seven people were injured as they ran in panic from their houses on the east of the island, Antara reported. Two had broken legs, the report said. There were no reports of widespread damage as a result of the quake. Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago nation, is prone to earthquakes because of its location on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire" -- volcanic arcs and oceanic trenches partly encircling the Pacific Basin.
