Female drug addict executed for robbery, murder ( 2003-11-23 10:46) (Xinhua) Bai Dezhen, a female drug
addict from Beijing, was executed Friday for robbing a 78-year-old grandmother
who refused to give her drug money, who she then killed.
Sources from the No.1 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing said that in
March 2001, Bai, in her early 40s, went to visit her godmother surnamed Wang to
borrow some money to buy narcotics whenshe was going through withdrawal.
Wang's mother in-law, surnamed Ni, happened to be at home aloneat the time.
According to the court, Ni warmly treated Bai just asbefore but when Bai asked
Ni to lend her some money, Ni refused.
Bai allegedly knocked down Ni and used nylon stockings to chokethe old woman
who shouted for help. She then struck Ni's head witha pump and when she saw that
Ni was motionless, Bai stole 3,100 yuan (about 374 US dollars) in cash and four
bank deposit books from Ni's home.
Bai then went directly to a branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of
China near the Weigongcun area in Beijing and withdrew another 3,000 yuan (about
362 US dollars).
Bai fled from Beijing and hid at her relatives' home in north China's Hebei
Province after having spent 900 yuan (about 108 US dollars) to buy three grams
of narcotics.
Bai was detained in March this year and was sentenced to death in September
on the charge of robbery and murder.
