China to hold int'l exhibition on police equipment ( 2003-10-18 14:41) (Xinhua)
China is to hold the second International Exhibition on Police Technologies & Equipment from June 23 to 26, 2004, officials from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) announced at a press conference Friday. As the country's sole international expo on police equipment, the exhibition to be held in Beijing will have great influence on the police products industry in China and even in Asia, said Tao Junsheng, deputy director of the Equipment and Finance Department of MPS. "Advanced equipment is a basic guarantee for policemen's sound performance in their duties," Tao said. "Growing social demands have brought great commercial opportunities for the police equipment industry." He pointed out that countries all over the world were focusing more on safety problems and actively promoting anti-terrorism cooperation, which called for higher standards of Chinese police equipment. According to Tao, the area of the display hall at the second exhibition will double the 10,000 square meters of the first, with both the quantity and quality of the products on show expected to be much higher. Equipment will be displayed in eight categories, namely police weapons, police instruments, safety protection products, police vehicles, police communication means, criminal reconnaissance technologies, anti-terrorism equipment and police uniforms, Tao said. According to Tao, police weapons will cover police guns, non- fatal weapons and riot police ammunitions. Protection products will include flak jackets, helmets and shields. Police vehicles will include helicopters, patrol cars, anti-riot autos, prison vans and guard vessels. China's first International Exhibition on Police Equipment & Technologies was held in Beijing in June 2002, attracting 160 domestic participants and 110 foreign companies from 19 countries and regions. Over 90 percent of the participants achieved intent orders or cooperation plans during the expo.
