Made-in-India product exhibition debuts in Beijing ( 2003-10-16 21:02) (Xinhua)
An exhibition showcasing Indian products opened Thursday, displaying the nation's modern industry. The three-day exhibition was sponsored by the Confederation of Indian Industry, the India embassy to China, and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. In the exhibition area covering 6,000 square meters, nearly 100 Indian companies showed products for export, including garments, vehicles, vehicle fittings, motorcycles, telecommunication and information technologies, as well as tourism products. Forums on selected industries and an Indian food festival will also be held. A delegation of more than 300 Indian entrepreneurs will also attend the exhibition and meet with their Chinese counterparts. The Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Arun Jaitley said the exhibition is designed to show the development and potential of Indian companies and boost bilateral trade. Statistics show that Sino-Indian trade volume grew with an annual rate of 30 percent since 2000, and reached 5 billion US dollars in 2002. By August, trade volume between China and India had reached 4 billion US dollars.
