Coal mine blast kills another six in NE China ( 2003-10-16 01:53) (Xinhua)
China's coal mine industry continued its tragic course as a coal mine blast
claimed another six lives Wednesday in Banjita Town of Linghai City, northeast
China's Liaoning Province, bringing the coal mine toll to 28 in a week.
The explosion happened about 12:00 p.m. Wednesday when 14 miners were working
underground, killing six while the other eight managed to escape, said Liu Hong,
deputy director of Liaoning Province's Bureau of Work Safety.
Liu said the bureau had already sent out an investigation team to the private
coal mine to probe the cause of the accident.
A coal mine gas explosion killed eight people Sunday night in Baotou city of
north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
In another coal mine explosion in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous
Region, at least seven people were killed Sunday afternoon.
In a flooded coal mine in Dengfeng City, central China's Henan Province, 18
miners were trapped as an explosion struck the mine last Thursday. To date,
seven miners have been confirmed dead.
