Coal mine blast kills 26 in north China ( 2003-08-15 10:17) (Xinhua) As of midnight Thursday, rescue
workers had found 26 bodies in a coal mine in Yangquan, north China's Shanxi
Province, after a gas explosion earlier in the day.
The blast took place at 12:40 p.m., trapping 28 miners working underground.
Rescuers rushed to the scene soon after the explosion.Leading officials of the
provincial authorities also arrived there Thursday evening.
Rescue work was going on at press time to search for the two missing miners
and investigation into the accident was underway.
