HK health director to take senior WHO post ( 2003-07-20 11:17) (Xinhua)
Hong Kong's health chief confirmed Saturday that she will quit the job to
take a senior post in the World Health Organization, according to local news
report.
Health Director Margaret Chan said she has accepted the offer from the UN
health agency to be head of its Protection of the Human Environment division.
It's the first time a Hong Kong official has been offered a post with the UN
agency.
Chan is currently on a government contract, due to expire in August 2004.
As health director since 1994, Chan acted as one of the government's most
important figure during the SARS outbreak.
She said her step down would leave the post to a younger person.
