Hong Kong police believe they have neutralized an armed robbery syndicate following the arrest of 10 persons in an operation starting from Monday.
Officers from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, Criminal Intelligence Bureau, Emergency Unit of Kowloon East, Police Tactical Unit and some other police units mounted a joint operation in Lei Yu Mun and Kwun Tong on Monday afternoon.
Shortly before 1:40 p.m., officers raided several huts at Chuen Yuen Road in Lei Yu Mun, where two local men and one male illegal immigrant were arrested.
One firearm, six rounds of ammunition, an air pistol, two machetes and some fake identity documents were found in the huts.
Investigations revealed that the syndicate might be related to previous armed robberies of Hong Kong Jockey Club off-course betting centers.
Among the arrested persons, a 14-year-old boy has been released on bail while the other seven men and two women, aged between 31 and 48, are still being detained for inquiries.
