Although she adopts a realistic approach, oil painter Chen Hui detaches the subject matters in her works from the real world and places them in scenes that are unreal and dramatic. By doing so, she reveals kaleidoscopic realities and people's distorted mentalities.

Chen's solo exhibition, Face, at Beijing's Hui Art Space shows her portraits.

Underneath these faces of children, men, women and animals, Chen pictures a general "face" of today's younger generation, who enjoy the playful feelings of the cyber world and sometimes are unable to distinguish between reality and the unreal. The show ends on Oct 23.
