"I never forget that. When we first started computer-animated films, it was like making crazy patterns on crazy fabrics. I went back to the earliest animation of Mickey Mouse to get inspiration."

Although he describes himself as a "geek", Lasseter believes that technology cannot solve all problems.

"When we look back on Toy Story, we will find that the technology was really primitive, but it still entertains people," he says.

"New technology is intoxicating but it's only a tool. Design, drawing, and film grammar are always the fundamental principles."
