        Q+A: Aidan J. O'Meara

Q: What book are you currently reading?

A: As it happens I am currently reading a book called What Chinese Want by Tom Doctoroff. My favorite book would be Long Walk To Freedom, which is the autobiography of Nelson Mandela, a man and a leader whom I greatly admire.

Of all the VF brands, which brand do you wear?

An old Wrangler Western denim jacket that I have. I started my VF career working with Wrangler so I have a special affinity with this iconic jeans brand.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I am most proud of being part of a great team that has built our Asia business from about $150 million to $900 million in revenues over the past five years and established the foundations for what will be an even more important part of VF Corp in the coming years.

What do you do in your spare time?

I spend time with my family and am interested in most sports but particularly rugby, soccer and golf. I try to stay active by going to the gym, playing golf and enjoying the outdoors , including skiing, when I get the opportunity.

Name places in China that impressed you most and those you have not visited but want to explore.

I have greatly appreciated and learned a lot about the diversity of China while being here. There are so many different cultures, foods and languages. As I have experienced different regions I have enjoyed them all. Xi'an, Chengdu, Beijing and, of course, Shanghai will always stick in my mind with each showing a very different side of China. I have not yet visited Yunnan province and this is something that I definitely want to do.

What kind of experience has shaped your thoughts the most?

I think my parents had the biggest influence on me and gave me the values, the education and the curiosity that have enabled me to build a successful career and have a good family life while living in five different countries on three continents.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Never be complacent. Never take anything for granted.

What characteristics do you think are important to succeed?

Determination, integrity and humility, together with the ability and willingness to listen carefully.
