        Xinhua | Updated: 2016-12-22 13:35
SHANGHAI - A human H7N9 avian flu case has been reported in Shanghai.

The patient is a 45-year-old man surnamed Zhang from Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. He was confirmed to have the virus by a hospital in Shanghai Wednesday, according to Shanghai Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning.

He is being treated in hospital.

H7N9, a bird flu strain most likely to strike in winter and spring, was first reported to have infected humans in China in March 2013.

A human H7N9 avian flu case was also reported Wednesday in Xiamen City, eastern China's Fujian Province.
