BEIJING -- About 9.1 million train trips were forecast to be made on Sunday, the fifth day of the National Day Holiday, up 10.9 percent from last year, the China Railway Corporation said on Sunday.

On Sunday, the rail operator dispatched 324 additional trains to accommodate the holiday rush, in an effort to guarantee all passengers reach their destinations.

Earlier data showed that nearly 11.73 million trips were made on Oct 1, a record high.

About 92.7 million trips are expected to be made during the 10-day travel rush ending Tuesday, up 12.9 percent from the previous year, the corporation predicted last month.
