This autumn, Shi Xiaojing enrolled in the Armed Police Corps of Zhejiang, a coastal province more than 1,000 miles away from her home in North China's Tianjin city, together with peers from across the country.
The first day in barracks is by no means easy for the new soldiers. It means they have to say goodbye to their beloved long hair and high heels, and become accustomed to harsh daily training.
