A man died as the result of a blood transfusion error in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, Huashang Daily reported on Monday.
The man, surnamed Liu, 36, suffered from liver cancer. He was sent on May 1 to a local hospital for upper gastrointestinal bleeding. During a blood transfusion on May 2 in the hospital, Liu's wife found that the blood type for transfusion was A, but Liu's was O, and she immediately reported to the doctors and nurses. A few hours later, Liu died.
The hospital admitted that it had made a mistake and discussed a settlement with Liu's family.
