        By Ma Lie (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2014-03-27 17:42

Xiamen city in Fujian province will sprinkle the ashes of deceased residents at sea for no charge, with the first such service to be held in April, Xiamen Daily reported on Thursday.

According to the city's civil affairs administration, the free service is available for those whose household is registered in Xiamen.

The first such service will be held on April 2, three day before Chinese Tomb-Sweeping Day on April 5. The city will also implement some other measures before the tomb-sweeping festival to decrease funeral expenses for its residents.
