A man in Anhui province has received State compensation after he was wrongly detained for 450 days, a website under China News Service reported on Monday.
Song Kui, a native of Bengbu in the province, was sentenced to four years in prison for rape in September 2010 and the case was retried after the defendant appealed to the local intermediate people's court, the report said.
During the retrial, prosecutors withdrew the charges and Song was released as innocent, according to the report.
To compensate for Song's detention for more than a year, the Huaiyuan county court, which first heard the case, paid Song 870,000 yuan ($143,460) recently, the report said.
Zhang Jian, the president of the provincial high people's court, told the media that courts in each level of the area must enforce a regulation of preventing false verdicts, which was issued by China's top court, and hold a judicial bottom line when dealing with cases.
