Li: East Asia should deepen security mutual trust

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday called on East Asian countries to deepen security mutual trust to safeguard regional peace and stability.

Li made the remarks in an address to an East Asia summit held here in the Bruneian capital. "Without peace and stability, any development is out of the question," he said.

China hopes to promote a new security concept that features comprehensive security, common security and cooperative security, and push forward candid dialogue and cooperation in the fields of traditional and non-traditional security, said the Chinese premier.

He stressed that every member country of the East Asia summit is responsible for regional security and stability, hoping that peace will last in East Asia and bring stability and tranquility to the region.

Li arrived here on Wednesday to attend the ongoing series of East Asian leaders' meetings and visit the country, the first leg of his maiden Southeast Asia tour since taking office in March.

The trip will also take him to Thailand and Vietnam.
