KATHMANDU, December 17 (Xinhua)-- Gas poisoning and suffocation has been blamed for the death of two Chinese tourists in Nepal, according to autopsies report which has been unveiled on Tuesday.

Two Chinese nationals, aged 55 and 62 respectively, had been found dead in the closed room of Hotel View Point at Nagarkot, 32 km east to Kathmandu on last Friday morning.

"The major reason behind the death of the Chinese tourists is suffocation probably due to the gas poisoning," Harihar Osti, a forensic expert, who carried our autopsies told Xinhua over phone.

He however said what caused the suffocation or gas poisoning was unknown. "It might be due to the substandard heater or lack of ventilator in the room to ease the movement of air that caused suffocation," he added.

Nine Chinese tourists had stayed at the hotel since last Thursday.

Nagarkot is a famous hill station in Bhaktapur, a satellite town of Kathmandu. It is one of the most scenic spots in Bhaktapur District and is renowned for its spectacular sunrise view of the Himalayan rage, including Mt. Qomolangma, the world's highest peak.
