China will establish a platform to promote trade with underdeveloped economies and emerging markets, said Commerce Minister Chen Deming on Wednesday.

China is determined to balance its foreign trade. While stabilizing exports, China will "continue to encourage imports, including advanced technology, crucial equipment, important raw materials as well as consumer goods with good market potential in order to balance trade with China's trade partners, which mainly contributed to China's trade surplus", said Chen.

He added that platforms will be in place for more underdeveloped and emerging economies to conduct trade with China.

China's trade surplus continued to narrow for a fourth year, Chen said. The trade surplus in 2011, about $150 billion, accounted for just 2.1 percent of China's gross domestic product.
