LANZHOU - A plane headed for Xinjiang made a forced landing at Jiayuguan Airport in northwest Gansu Province at around 5:40 pm Thursday after a female passenger claimed there was a bomb onboard, local authorities said.
Police detained the passenger upon landing and said her surname is Wang, 27, originally from Chongqing municipality, but most recently worked at a bank in Beijing.
She had a problem with her boyfriend and was heading to Xinjiang to talk to him, police said.
Flight KN2273 was headed for Urumqi, capital of northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, after taking off from Beijing Nanyuan Airport, according to local police. It had 160 passengers and 10 crew members onboard.
The plane took off at 11:30 pm Thursday after it was cleared.
Police continue to investigate.
