Netizens laud preparations for Beijing Olympics
        (bbs.chinadaily.com.cn)

August 8, 2008 is a long-awaited day for all the Chinese, or even lots of people in other parts of the world. The Beijing Olympics will officially lifts its curtain, gathering people from across the world and providing a platform for people of all races to party. To make this party a splendid one, Beijing and the whole country have made tremendous efforts. The following are some of the comments made by chinadaily.com.cn readers on the China Daily forum (bbs.chinadaily.com.cn):

Dr Stan Theron NZ (New Zealand)

Congratulations on these heroic and gigantic jobs of preparing all the venues and infrastructure including the clean air for the greatest Olympics ever

Bruce in Beijing (Foreigner in Beijing)

Anyone who has been in Beijing recently will know that we have had some wonderful days with excellent weather. The weekend was glorious, with really clear blue skies. On Monday the haze and humidity came back, but yesterday I was sitting outside at a pavement cafe on Dongdaqiao Lu, again with loively blue skies. Anyone knowing Beijing knows that the weather conditions start to improve through August and September. In late June and early July hot humid air comes up from South China, giving typical hazy conditions, but in August dry air starts again to come from the north, bringing back the blue skies which were normal for the first 4 or 5 months this year. The tremendous environmental work Beijing has done over the last few years is greatly benefiting the city and the people and that work will continue to benefit the city long after the Olympics are finished. I hope the world will see the work that has been done not only to improve the beauty of Beijing but also to improve life for everyone.

The Beijing Olympics will be truly the best ever East-West combination in celebration and honour of the Spirits of Olympics - ONE WORLD ONE DREAM! Congratulations to the citizens of the world!

        Agathe (Germany)

I am looking forward to the opening ceremony very emotionally and I do hope it will be a great success. My late Chinese friend was so anxious to see the Olympics come but unfortunately he was too ill to live long enough to watch the games (even if he had to stay here in Germany). China and Chinese people have worked hard to be a perfect host and they will do their best. Many, many, many people all around the world are waiting to watch the Games! With all his and my heart , greetings from Germany! Agathe

The opening ceremony will be extraordinary! truly a phenomenon of art and entertainment displaying the diverse and colorful culture of China... perhaps the best Olympic opening ceremony in history!!! I expect nothing less that the very best ever... an historic event!!!

        Bernd (Germany)

I wish the Chinese people and their guests some joyful weeks during the Olympic Games. And I hope, that we will improve understanding and respect between the different cultures of the world and reach out towards the unity of mankind!
