US, China announce minor agreements(AP)Updated: 2007-05-23 23:01 WASHINGTON - The United States and China concluded two days of high-level economic talks on Wednesday with a variety of minor agreements.
Paulson said in a statement that the two countries had agreed on a wide variety of next steps to be taken in such areas as financial services, energy and the environment and civil aviation. Paulson said the two sides agreed to cooperate in the development of clean energy technology, something critical in China, a country that depends heavily on coal-fired power plants. However, the two sides failed to make progress in one of the biggest economic issues separating the countries: China's currency. The Chinese delegation was scheduled to meet later Wednesday with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. They were to meet on Thursday with President Bush.
