MUNICH - German car producer Audi AG has set a new record, selling 415,704 vehicles so far in 2014 on the Chinese market, the Ingolstadt-based company announced Monday.
In September alone, the brand delivered 51,614 automobiles, representing a year-on-year growth of 13.4 percent.
"This result clearly demonstrates our market leadership as the premium brand in China," said Luca de Meo, member of board management for marketing and sales at Audi AG.
Local production has greatly contributed to the record sales in China. Audi Q3 and Audi Q5 - both produced in China - were particularly successful, with 59,220 and 78,725 units sold respectively.
In addition, the demand for Audi models exported to China from Germany was also strong in the first nine months. The sales of Audi Q7 rose by 23.5 percent to 15,676 units, and the sales of Audi A8 L were up by 11.3 percent to 14,475 units, according to the statistics released in the announcement.
