WASHINGTON -- China and the US have agreed to increase strategic mutual trust, practical cooperation and dialogue on international and regional issues, Chinese State Councilor Dai Binguo said on Tuesday.

"First, on the strategic track, Secretary (of State Hillary) Clinton and I focused on the agreement of our two leaders and exchanged views on how to build a China-US cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit," he told a press conference after the third round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED).

The two countries issued an outcome list of the strategic track, which covered energy, environment, science, technology, transport, forestry, and climate change cooperations, he said.

"After each round of dialogues, we have successfully expanded our mutual understanding and increased our mutual trust and enhanced our cooperation, and this has added to our confidence of further developing our bilateral relations in the future," Dai said.

The Chinese official said the United States had reaffirmed it welcomed a strong, successful and prosperous China that played a greater role in international affairs.

"Both sides agreed to hold China-US strategic security dialogue within the framework of the Strategic Dialogue, and it held its first round of meetings this morning," Dai said.

The two countries also agreed to work together to better coordinate and interact with each other in the Asia-Pacific region.

"We must work together with other countries in this region to uphold peace, stability in the Asia-Pacific and to promote the sustained prosperity of the Asia-Pacific and achieve the common development of all countries in this region," he said.

The Chinese state councilor said China and the United States agreed to work globally and respond to international and domestic challenges.

"As two influential countries, it is important that China and the United States have more consultation, coordination, and cooperation in order to safeguard and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the world," he said.

The S&ED had played a very important role in enhancing mutual trust, coordinating positions, and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, Dai said.

The two-day S&ED was co-chaired by Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Qishan, Dai, Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.
