China Eastern Airlines Corp. Ltd. said on Tuesday it had signed a contract to buy 30 A320 passenger jets from Airbus.
The airline said it would pay less than the 13.9 billion yuan (US$1.74 billion) total list price for the planes. Delivery will take place between May 2008 and November 2010.
China agreed last December to buy a total of 150 planes from Airbus, which is majority owned by EADS and the 30-plane contract announced on Tuesday appeared to be part of that agreement.
