Garuda seeks new destination
Garuda Indonesia is seeking a fourth Chinese destination amid a 10 percent increase in Chinese tourists to Jakarta since it provided an in-flight immigration service in May.
Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing usually see the airline's flights at least 75 percent full.
"The increasing business requires us to open a new route to China's western region," said Sentot Mujiono, general manager of the airline’s Shanghai office, on Wednesday.
Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan province, and Chongqing have been chosen as candidate cities, Mujiono said.
"Market surveys are under way and the new route will be launched within two years," he said.
The airline plans to enlarge its fleet from 112 to 194 by 2015.
