HONG KONG - Hong Kong's volume of total exports of goods in February rose 6.3 percent from a year ago, with the volume of re-exports of goods up 6.7 percent and that of domestic exports down 15.8 percent, the city's statistics department said here Thursday.
Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods in February increased 15.5 percent.
As the trade flows in January and February of each year tend to show considerable volatilities due to differences in timing of the Lunar New Year holidays, it is useful to analyze the trade figures for these two months taken together, the statistics department said.
Comparing the first two months of 2012 with the same period in 2011, the volume of Hong Kong's total exports of goods fell 5.1 percent, with the volume of re-exports of good down 4.5 percent and that of domestic exports down 34.6 percent.
Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods in the two months decreased 1.1 percent.
Comparing February 2012 with February 2011, the prices of total exports of goods grew 6.0 percent, with the prices of re-exports of goods up 6.1 percent and those of domestic exports up 2.7 percent.
Concurrently, the prices of imports of goods rose 4.8 percent.
As regards the price changes in the first two months of 2012 over the same period in 2011, the prices of total good exports increased 6.7 percent, with the prices of re-exports of goods up 6.8 percent and those of domestic exports up 3.1 percent.
Concurrently, the prices of imports of goods in the two months climbed 5.9 percent.
