China's newly proved coal reserves fall 43% in 2008

Updated: 2009-03-02 15:30 China's newly proved coal reserves in 2008 were 23.11 billion tons, down 43 percent from a year earlier, according to figures with the National Bureau of Statistics. China is now the world's largest coal consumer. Last year the country's coal consumption was 2.74 billion tons, 3 percent higher than in 2007.
