Four key factors to successBy Ding Qingfen and Ramond Zhou (China Daily)Updated: 2006-12-25 11:42 Tian shi, di li, ren he, a proverbial Chinese saying, translates to: right time, right place, and right person doing the right thing. Many believe these are the four key factors that lead to success.
It's also one of George Yang's favourite sayings, not only because he has found it to be true in his 20-year-long hospitality career, but because he believes sticking to the motto will help his employer achieve success. Yang, 37, is the new general manager (GM) of Shangri-La's Kerry Centre Hotel Beijing. Among international hotel managers, Yang is a rarity: Both young and locally born. In early 2002, he was promoted from executive assistant manager with Shangri-La Hotel Changchun to the hotel's GM. His work in that position launched him to the post of the GM of the Shangri-La Wuhan in 2004, where he worked for two years before he joined the Kerry Centre this July. Yang is reserved, but smart. When asked about the secret to his success, he
says: "The Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts offers an environment
for employees to achieve their career and personal goals. I am lucky to be here;
I appreciate Shangri-La's faith in me."
