VW underscores commitment to China at CIIE
German car group Volkswagen is presenting a number of its latest products at this year's China International Import Expo, which runs from Tuesday to Sunday.
Highlights include a smart cockpit demo showing state-of-the-art digital functions enabled by the China Electronic Architecture, which is exclusively developed for China to offer advanced digital services and autonomous driving functions.
The group's subsidiaries Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche are showcasing six pure electric models, some of which are tailor-made for the Chinese market, and the classic Porsche 911 Turbo (930), which is the first turbocharged production car of Porsche.
"The Volkswagen Group is fully committed to China, the powerhouse of the global automotive industry. We have a clear ambition to maintain our position as the leading international car manufacturer in China," said Oliver Blume, chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG.
"Thus, we will continue to invest and innovate to meet the evolving needs of the Chinese customers. The know-how we are gaining in China will also accelerate our global transformation," he said.
Ralf Brandstaetter, member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG for China, said the Volkswagen Group has "never stopped" to deliver China specific products and technologies to our Chinese customers.
"With our consistent 'in China, for China' strategy, we are following a strong plan to stay on the fast lane of transformation in the future. Backed by our strong local R&D capabilities and partnerships with Chinese tech companies and carmakers, we deliver on our promises to cater to the needs of our Chinese customers with state-of-the-art products," he said.
Now around 50 million Chinese customers drive a car produced by the group's brands. Brand loyalty is above the market average for locally produced Audi and Volkswagen models.
The German car group has over 3,000 dealers in China, through which customers can choose from around 160 passenger car models from the Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Skoda, Bentley and Lamborghini brands - and the motorcycle manufacturer Ducati also offers ten models in China.
