In Lizu village of China's Zhejiang province, you can shop for imported goods from around the world without leaving the village, from Belgian chocolates to Spanish ham, from Russian dolls to German beer. China Daily reporter Zhao Manfeng was on the ground with a group of international scholars to discover Lizu's transformation from a once struggling village to a thriving hub of opportunity and prosperity in September. With a tenfold increase in per capita income, the village stands as a shining example of rural development and community empowerment.
