The ongoing exhibition at Jiushi Art Museum in Shanghai, entitled Splendors of the Sun and Moon, features more than 60 master artists from home and abroad.

The exhibition, jointly hosted by the museum and the School of Philosophy of Fudan University, is open through Jan 12 as part of the program of the ongoing China Shanghai International Arts Festival.

The exhibition is arranged in three chapters: Heaven, Earth and Human. The first chapter "Heaven", featuring works such as the abstract paintings of Chu Teh-Chun and Zao Wou-Ki, discusses the power of Nature and order of the universe.

The second chapter "Earth" is about the material world and the environment people dwell in. In this part, small paintings of Giorgio Morandi, Paul Cezanne and Balthus are showcased alongside Chinese artists such as Xu Jiang, Wang Tiande and Zhang Huan.

The Human chapter features the complicated outlook of human existence, reflecting artists' insights into life, humanity and society. In this section, visitors will find the photographs created by the renowned Russian contemporary art group AES+F, and creations of Chinese contemporary artists Xu Bing and Yin Zhaoyang.

The exhibition "reflects the deep thoughts of artists about fundamental subjects such as the universe, nature and life, and shows their distinctive interpretation for these subjects," according to the curator of the exhibition, Tongyan Runan.

By presenting the works of Chinese and Western artists in the same context, the curator hoped to initiate a dialogue between the artistic interpretation of philosophical ideas between the East and the West.
