The Great Journey to shine on silver screen
The Great Journey, a forthcoming film adapted from the eponymous gala — a stage production commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China in 2021 — is set for a domestic theatrical release on Oct 16.
Produced by the China Central Newsreel and Documentary Film Studio, the film documents and reimagines the performance that took place in Beijing's Bird's Nest three years ago, transforming it into a 4K and panoramic sound production tailored for large-screen release.
Comprising four chapters, the film offers a grand perspective to revisit the remarkable trajectory of the Communist Party of China over the past century, illustrating the remarkable progress of the Chinese people under the Party's leadership.
The upcoming film, The Great Journey, held a preview screening in Beijing on Sept 29.
Yao Yonghui, the chairman of the studio, said that a team of over 100 crew members dedicated 15 days to filming the gala's rehearsals using 18 cameras capable of capturing 8K images.
Yao added that the crew has made efforts to reproduce the awe-inspiring audiovisual scenes of the stage performance through various processes, including the incorporation of visual effects.
Chen Weiya, the chief director of the gala, expressed that the film aims to engage a larger audience in a more immersive viewing experience, adding that he hopes it will offer viewers the inspiration and encouragement derived from the great spirit of the CPC's history.
