Daughter inherits her fallen father's police badge number
Ma Yilin followed in her departed father's step to be a police officer and inherited his badge number, during a ceremony held on Tuesday in Sichuan's Shiqu county, CCTV reported.
The badge, numbered 066171, marked a symbolic continuation of her father's legacy and dedication to the police force.
"Dear father, can you see me? Now I have also become a proud police officer, just like you. The moment I put on your police badge, I truly felt you holding me, just like when I was a child," said Ma during the ceremony.
The father Wang Zhigang, a former deputy political commissar of the Shiqu County Public Security Bureau, suffered a fatal heart attack on October 6, 2017, while working during the National Day holidays.
Despite hospital efforts, Wang unfortunately passed away at the age of 47.
The daughter Ma came to the place where her father worked after graduating from her university in 2022, and joined the Shiqu county police force as a publicity officer.
For Ma, inheriting her father's badge number represents not only continuing her father's aspirations but also a commitment to the police and its mission.
"I know that behind this police uniform lies a heavy responsibility and mission. My father's words and actions during his lifetime have taught me what bravery and justice truly mean," said Ma.
During the ceremony, she vowed to move forward shoulder to shoulder with her colleagues.
With an average elevation of 4,526 meters above sea level and harsh living conditions, Shiqu county is often referred to as a "zone that forbids life."
Despite the hardships, the locals praised Wang for being a fearless hero and a good son of the grassland. He often received nicknames, such as "master case solver."
Wang's 21-year-career as a police officer was marked by exceptional commitment and a record-breaking 90 percent case-solving rate. He was posthumously named a "second-class hero model of the national public security system" and a "first-class civil servant."
