Action comedy Rob & Roll crosses 200m yuan mark in ticket sales
Action comedy Rob & Roll, presented by China's leading online content producer iQIYI, has surpassed 200 million yuan ($27.81 million) in box office revenues, according to data from China Movie Database.
The film passed the 100 million yuan mark on Jan 23, only three days after its release, and earned second place in ticket sales within the first week.
Directed by Albert Mak and produced by Derek Yee, Rob & Roll features a star-studded cast, including Aaron Kwok, Ka Tung Lam, and Richie Jen, three of China's finest actors and best actor winners at global film awards.
In the words of Mak, the film was created based on his own experiences in life. "The audience can find the prototype for every character in the film in the people around them," said Mak. For Yee, the message of Rob & Roll is simple, and that is for the family to stay together. "I won't get too philosophical here. I just hope that the viewers can walk into the theater, enjoy themselves and laugh their hearts out for two hours," said Yee.
Rob & Roll centers on Mui, a ruthless robber who meticulously plans a major heist but inadvertently teams up with two bewildered middle-aged men. The mismatched trio soon finds itself entangled in a chaotic adventure, filled with humor and twists.
Rob & Roll has attracted a wave of attention on the social media, with many viewers leaving their comments after seeing the film: "It was great, even the supporting actors deserve award"; "Touched by the ordinary.
